Now that you have a role or job that your character possesses...

Crowd of People

01

Larger Role in Society

What are the traits of this job/role? What expectations does your character meet, and which do they not? How did they find themself in this role? How do the people around them feel about your protagonist?

02

Imperfections

You have to give your protagonist some flaws. How does your character overcome these flaws? Why do they do this? What motivates your character? It’s fine if it changes throughout the story.

03

Motivation

Change is a sign of a dynamic character. Determine what your character wants at the beginning of your story, then find out what your character actually needs. I highly caution you from using the same thing as your characters want and need.

04

Story is Character

Now that you have a rough idea of your character, start to build the story around this protagonist. The story doesn’t have to be flushed out, but try to find your location, genre, and character arc.
